Dear Dennis,
Congratulations on earning Junior Master Status!New Feature: How close am I to my next ACBL Rank?
As your representative from District 15 on the ACBL National Board, it is my honor to extend my congratulations on reaching this new status. I would love to hear your story on how you achieved this milestone and would like your permission to share your story as a inspiration for others. If you are comfortable, please include/attach a self-portrait that we can include with the story.
Are there things that we could have done in District 15 or in your Unit to improve your bridge experience? What can we do to help you achieve your next bridge goal?
I would also welcome any comments and suggestions on how the ACBL can serve you better.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Brown Email: District15Director@acbl.org
Dear Rebecca
Thanks ever so for your email rallying my ascension to Junior Master. About me: my wife and I learned some bridge ages ago but into retirement, my bridge was rusty. I met a sweet lady after I was widowed, she taught bridge, and I was quick to figure out that if I was going to hang out with her, it was either bridge or ballroom dance.
I filled in her classes when she needed a fourth and she paired me with her bright student, Amanda - younger than my kids and as smart as a tree full of owls. People ask us “..uh… are you two… uh, related?” I tell them Amanda is a great bridge partner, but as a wingman, she leaves a lot to be desired. Amanda is sick of that joke. We only play once a week, so in the 15 months we've played, she's heard it less than 60 times.
I’m only the second-worst comedian in our club. L. D. and I are trying to set up a comedy show for a hospitality event at an upcoming bridge tournament. Comments/suggestions? I like socializing with bridge players lots more than the folks at the senior center or golfers.
That’s about it. – Dennis Maley
